Region 5 - Fountain Valley

AYSO Region 5 Volunteers

Volunteering with AYSO requires SIGNING UP, BACKGROUND SCREENING and TRAINING. You need to complete ALL THREE STEPS before beginning to work as a volunteer with your team.

To get started, go to and login to your account. Select “Volunteer” from the pull down menu to be taken to the “My Roles & Certificates” page. See image below.

On the “My Roles & Certificates” page, click on the blue “find volunteer roles” button, select the desired volunteer role, and fill in the requested information. Once this step is complete, the division directors will be able to add the volunteer to the team.

Now return to the “My Roles & Certificates” page to determine what screening and training you need to complete for the season.

(1) Sterling Background Check - Once you have “signed up” for your volunteer role, you will receive an invitation email from [email protected]. Please follow the link to complete your Background Check ASAP. The Region will be billed directly, so you should not enter any payment information for this. Please be aware that due to County, State and Federal reporting, Background Check Processing can take up to 10 business days. Self disclosures can add an additional 5 business days.

(2) LiveScan Fingerprinting - The Region pays for this as well, but you need a code that is specific to you. Ask your coach to contact the division director to request a code for you. Once you receive your code, click on, enter the code and follow the instructions to schedule an appointment to be LiveScanned at a convenient location. Live Scan Fingerprinting is done only ONCE. Your AYSO Live Scan will be valid continuously unless there is a gap in volunteer service of five or more years.

Certain training needs to be renewed periodically (SafeHaven, for example); other types of training (coach certifications, for example) only need to be completed once, but the Region encourages volunteers to take more advanced courses to further their training.

(1) SafeHaven, Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest - click on AYSOU to be redirected to the AYSO’s online training portal, etrainu. Click on Training Library and then SafeHaven. All three courses (SafeHave, Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest) can be found there.

(2) SafeSport - checkmark the box next to SafeSport by clicking on it and then select the Renew & Update button. A dialog box will pop up - click on the link to go to SafeSport, create an account, and click enroll on the "Enrollment Key” popup window. Complete SafeSport Trained - US Soccer in My Courses. It should take about 90 minutes, but you can leave and come back without losing your progress.

(3) Coach and Referee Certifications - The final requirement for coaches, assistant coaches and referees (team managers get a break here) is in-person training. To access training opportunities, clIck on AYSOU and then Training Events. You will need to enroll for a course - don’t just show up. Use the filter options to look for a location nearby and be sure to complete any prerequisites before attending the course. Several volunteers will be attending the 10U/12U coach training in Fountain Valley on March 17th from 6pm-9pm. All current, future and aspiring coaches are invited to attend. Plus, it is free to Region 5 volunteers.
