AYSO 12U Youth Soccer
The 12U program was developed to continue player development in a fun yet competitive environment. After the completion of the regular season, an invitational postseason tournament is played with the top teams receiving trophies. The winner of the postseason tournament is eligible to move on to the area tournament in December. Players in division are 10 or 11 years old by the end of the year.
Season Length | The regular season runs from August through November. Regional champion season continues to December. Spring is February through May. |
Time Commitment | Practice approximately 60-90 minutes once or twice a week (depending on the coach's schedule). Games are played on Saturday. The game consists of two 30-minute halves. |
Equipment | Each player will be given a uniform which consists of a jersey, shorts, and socks. The player must provide soccer cleats and shin guards. Size 4 ball is optional. |
Certification Required | All volunteers must be registered AYSO Volunteers, and all coaches must be Safe Haven and Safe Sport certified.
Coach certification requires: Risk Status (background check) Live Scan (fingerprinting) Safe Haven Sudden Cardiac Arrest CDC Concussion Awareness Safe Sport 12U Coaching License

Game Format | The game is played 9 vs. 9, under a modified FIFA rule system. A minimum of 6 players per team is required for a game to start or continue. The game is played in 2 30-minute halves. Substitutions/breaks are done halfway through each half, and there is a 3-5 minute halftime break. Teams switch sides after halftime. |
Team Draft | The teams are formed via a draft. The player ratings are provided to all coaches prior to the draft. Region 5 allows up to 12 players per team. |
Game Play Extras | FIFA Laws are fully enforced by certified referees in 12U. Goals can be scored from kickoff. Offside line is the half line. Goalies may drop kick/punt the ball. Intentional headers are not allowed and result in an indirect kick to the opposing team. Yellow and red cards may be issued in accordance with the Laws of The Game. |
